Installation
The gooseneck assembly is pre-installed during the overall machine assembly. When the machine is delivered to the customer site, the gooseneck assembly shall be removed first, and reinstalled onto the machine after the melting furnace has been fully installed. The gooseneck assembly is mounted on the machine vertical base, functioning to inject and convey molten alloy liquid. The installation procedures are specified as follows:
- Place the gooseneck on the arch platform of the vertical base, ensuring the side face of the gooseneck protrudes 1~3mm beyond the side mating surface of the vertical base.
- Fit the two upper clamping plates on the gooseneck first, moderately tighten the screws with an open-end wrench, then assemble the side clamping plates.
- Tighten the 4 screws on the side clamping plates evenly and alternately with an Allen hex key wrench.
- Further tighten the screws of the two upper clamping plates alternately using an open-end wrench.
Requirements: A thin layer of high-temperature grease shall be applied to the external thread of all clamping plate screws prior to installation. Our company currently adopts OPEX High Temperature Grease manufactured by OPEX Petroleum Company.
Operating Requirements
- The gooseneck of the gooseneck assembly is heated by cartridge heaters or heating rings. During normal machine operation, the heating temperature shall be maintained at 420°C:
- When using cartridge heaters: keep temperature at 420°C;
- When using heating rings: ensure the gooseneck passage is unobstructed before startup to prevent blockage by solidified zinc alloy and failed injection.
- The chemical composition of die-casting zinc alloy must comply with GB/T 13818-92 Zinc Die-Casting Alloys. Impurity content exerts a significant adverse impact on the corrosion resistance of the gooseneck assembly.
Maintenance Regulations
- Prior to usage, the casting surface of the gooseneck must be coated with NC8 acid-proof paint to avoid corrosion (This coating has been finished before factory delivery).
- Maintain the molten zinc alloy temperature inside the crucible at 410~430°C. Excessively high temperature will drastically increase the corrosiveness of molten zinc alloy, leading to corrosion of the gooseneck body and shot sleeve, jamming of the injection plunger, and shortened service life of the gooseneck assembly.
(Normal molten alloy presents an off-white hue; dark red color indicates overheating.)
- Inspect the furnace thermocouple probe every half month: pull out the probe, wipe its surface thoroughly, check for corrosion damage, and replace it promptly once corrosion is detected.
- Skim dross on the surface of molten zinc alloy in the crucible in a timely manner. If alloy dross enters the shot sleeve, it will scratch the piston ring, injection plunger and shot sleeve, and may cause permanent jamming of the plunger in severe cases.
- Replenish alloy ingots regularly to keep the molten alloy level above the designated line inside the crucible. Too low liquid level will allow molten metal to permeate into the shot sleeve and lock up the injection plunger.
- Molten zinc alloy must be kept clean, free of moisture, oil stains and other contaminants.
- Adopt a nozzle body whose taper perfectly matches the tapered bore of the gooseneck.
- If molten metal leakage occurs at the gooseneck tapered bore, remove the nozzle body immediately: clean residual molten alloy from the tapered surface of the nozzle body and the gooseneck bore sequentially, then reinstall the nozzle body in accordance with the installation steps.

- For intermediate downtime (die change, die repair and other stops), lower the temperature of the gooseneck and nozzle body below 380°C to mitigate corrosion.
(Note: Raise the temperature back to the specified working level before resuming die casting production.)
- For long-term production shutdown: remove the injection plunger before stopping operation, scoop out 2/3 of molten alloy liquid, and ensure the furnace thermocouple probe remains immersed in molten metal at all times.
- Carry out periodic replacement: piston ring (recommended every 45 days), injection plunger (recommended every 4 months).
- No foreign debris shall fall into the shot sleeve during disassembly and assembly of the injection plunger and piston ring.
